Unified Communications – Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Telecom)


SUMMARY High level objectives.
This position will help lead the effort in migrating from legacy voice infrastructure to an innovative enterprise voice, mobility, and Unified Communications solution, in collaboration with key operational stakeholders. This position will also engineer, build, and lead projects, resolve complex telephony issues, and optimize the enterprise voice infrastructure. The engineer will interact with Network, Wireless, Security and Mobility teams, various other internal  and external vendors, and is responsible for assisting with the effort to implement Unified Communications projects. Requires interaction with upper-level IT management, leads, and architects to ensure processes are efficient, sustainable, repeatable, and predictable.

RESPONSIBILITIES Tasks, functions, deliverables, etc.
• Support Unified Communications projects for the enterprise’s voice and telephony needs at campus locations, airports, sales offices, and reservations worldwide.
• Coordinate with architects to develop the strategy for defining, deploying, and maintaining voice services with regards to the Unified Communications architecture.
• Design, engineer, and deploy a reliable and robust Unified Communications architecture and platform.
• Prepare technical and architecture designs that detail the proposed UC technologies and their integration into the enterprise.
• Support the enterprise UC vision deliverables by implementing viable technologies, ensuring compatibility with the existing environment, and acting as a technical resource for peers and managers within the UC team.
• Research and remain current on emerging Unified Communications technologies, products, services, protocols, and standards that are directly in line with the UC vision, business needs, and requirements.
• Ensure integration compatibility of new UC systems with enterprise LANs, WANs and Internet-based services and protocols.
• Plan for management or phasing out of legacy telephony systems and other switch based technologies.
• Support telecommunications infrastructure and its associated software, including PBXs, call management systems, voice mail, and interactive voice response, and respond to issue escalation and service interruption as a confident technical leader.
• Assume technical leadership role in problem resolution and root cause analysis, and provide actionable after-incident analysis to ensure root cause issues are logged and remediated.
• Maintain effective external relationships with UC vendors, consultants, and service providers. Leverage these relationships to ensure that the best fit solutions and resources are available to the enterprise. Where necessary, work with solution vendors during installations and deployments.
• Ability to mentor and serve as a technical onboarding resource for the Jr. engineering staff.
• Install infrastructure components on networks and servers, ensure that the technical performance aspects in the infrastructure environment are optimized, including database, network, and application server performance.
• Understanding how network hardware and technologies work, besides shared storage technologies.
• Engineers manage the security of computer systems and inter-application information transfers
• Plan capacity, and design for infrastructure engineering projects, and ensure sufficient network redundancy
• Engineers ensure the resolution of Voice client issues and phone system issues (for video conferencing) and administer and manage all corporate network resources.
• Responsible for the operations of secure and highly available computing (WebEX, Cisco Jabber, and 3rd parties) platforms, servers, and networks.
• Infrastructure Engineers deploy the release of new technologies as well as design, install, configure, maintain and perform testing of Application server operating systems, networks, and related utilities and hardware.
• Infrastructure Engineer need good communication skills and must be able to work collaboratively with clients and other technical colleagues.
• Other responsibilities include troubleshooting problems as reported by users, supporting Web access and electronic messaging services and maintaining a secure systems environment.
• Provide infrastructure solutions based on application needs and anticipated growth, install new servers and maintain the infrastructure.


QUALIFICATIONS
• B.S. Computer Science, Telecom, Engineering, or related discipline
• Strong technical knowledge of VoIP/IP telephony systems, PBXs, voice mail, ACD’s, interactive voice services, call management systems, and telecommunications accounting systems
• 5 – 10 years of VoIP/IP telephone systems experience, preferably with Cisco
• In depth experience and technical proficiency deploying and supporting Unified Communications collaboration tools using integrated voice, video, and data architectures
• In depth experience and technical proficiency with VoIP networking.
• In depth experience and technical proficiency in coordinating resolution of planning issues for LAN/WAN architectures, including IP segmentation, voice VLANs, DHCP, Security, QoS, Firewall penetration, wireless segments, etc
• Strong understanding of VoIP QoS and problem mitigation strategies
• Strong experience with physical/virtual Voice Application servers and their service dependencies/functionalities
• Strong hands on knowledge of SIP, H.323 (IP), H.320 (ISDN), TCP/IP
• Session Border Controller experience (SONUS, Acme Packet, Cisco, etc)
• Telephony Traffic and Engineering experience (Erlangs, Trunks, Blockage, etc)
• Technical knowledge of PSTN, VoIP, T1/PRI, MPLS, Frame Relay, ATM, ISDN and systems interconnectivity
• Microsoft Visio
• DNS/ENUM and Dialing Plan
• Experience with telecom/data carrier provisioning, and troubleshooting procedures
• Experience with current best practices in IT standards, principles, and security practices

Position will be a long term contract and does not have the ability to convert. Top 3 to 5 skillsets / yrs of experience : • 5 – 10 years of VoIP/IP telephone systems experience, preferably with Cisco • In depth experience and technical proficiency deploying and supporting Unified Communications collaboration tools using integrated voice, video, and data architectures • Strong understanding of VoIP QoS and problem mitigation strategies
